Join ceramicist London James in this free, drop-in program for all ages, where she will be using molds to create contemporary clay pieces demonstrating modern techniques in the field. This program is produced in partnership with Self Help Graphics & Art and complements the exhibition Picture-Worlds: Maya, Moche, and Greek Painted Pottery.

About Self Help Graphics & Art
Founded in 1970 in the heart of East Los Angeles, Self Help Graphics & Art is dedicated to the production, interpretation, and distribution of prints and other art media by Chicana/o and Latina/o artists. Our multidisciplinary and intergenerational programs promote artistic excellence and empower our community by providing access to space, tools, training, and capital.

About the Artist
London James (b. 1991) is a dynamic ceramic artist. Raised by her mother in Los Angeles, James was immersed in a world shaped by music, sports, art, sneakers, and more. In James’ current ceramic practice, sneakers are the object of interest, and the use of slip casting becomes the process par excellence in capturing all the subtle details in these complex forms. Through the merging of James’ love of ceramics and sneakers as a cultural icon, she is able to explore ideas about her own identity while staying motivated to inspire and nurture the creative spirit among young Black youth.
